Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of the Living Manual plugin and website. By installing the plugin or buying a license, you agree to them.

1. The software

Living Manual is a WordPress plugin that turns a document into browsable pages, search, and an AI docent. It comes in two parts. The free core, which provides the browsable manual and search, is distributed under the GNU General Public License and is free to use. The premium features, which include the AI docent and the insights dashboard, require a valid paid license and are the subject of these terms.

2. Your license

When you purchase a plan, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the premium features on the number of separate websites permitted by your plan, for the license term:

• Single: one website.
• Multi-site: up to five websites.
• Agency: unlimited websites, including the right to deploy Living Manual on websites you build for your own clients.

The premium features function only while your license is valid and active. If your license lapses, the free core, including the browsable manual and search, keeps working, and the premium features pause until you renew.

3. The free core

The free core is licensed under the GPL and provided at no charge and without warranty. Nothing in these terms limits the rights the GPL grants you in that code.

4. Your responsibilities

• Your AI key. The AI features run on your own Anthropic API key. You are responsible for obtaining that key, for keeping it secure, and for all charges Anthropic bills to your account for ingestion and questions.
• Your content. You are responsible for the documents you ingest. You represent that you have the rights to use them and that they do not violate any law or third-party rights.
• Compliance. Your use of the AI features is also subject to Anthropic's usage policies and terms. You agree to comply with them.
• Your site. You are responsible for your WordPress installation, its security, and controlling who can access your manual.

5. AI output

The docent generates answers from the document you provide. While it is designed to answer only from your document and to cite its sources, AI output can still be incomplete or wrong. Living Manual does not guarantee the accuracy of any answer. The output is not professional advice, and you are responsible for reviewing it before relying on it, especially for legal, financial, medical, safety, or compliance matters.

6. Payment and renewal

Licenses are billed annually through Lemon Squeezy, which acts as our Merchant of Record and is the seller and processor for the transaction. Unless you cancel, your license renews automatically each year at the then-current price, and Lemon Squeezy charges your payment method on file. You can cancel automatic renewal at any time to stop future charges; your license then remains active until the end of the paid term. Applicable taxes are handled by Lemon Squeezy at checkout. We may change prices, with any change applying to renewals after we give notice.

7. Refunds

Refunds are governed by our Refund Policy, which forms part of these terms.

8. Intellectual property

Except for the code we distribute under the GPL, Living Manual and its name, logo, website, and premium code are our property and are protected by intellectual property laws. These terms do not transfer any of our intellectual property to you beyond the license granted above.

9. Warranty disclaimer

The software and website are provided "as is" and "as available," without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the software will be uninterrupted, error-free, or compatible with every WordPress configuration.

10. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Living Manual will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, revenue, or profits, arising out of or related to your use of the software or website. Our total liability for any claim will not exceed the amount you paid us for the license in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law.

11. Termination

You may stop using the software at any time. We may suspend or terminate a license if you materially breach these terms. On termination, your right to use the premium features ends, though the GPL-licensed free core is unaffected.

12. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. The state and federal courts located in Virginia will have jurisdiction over any dispute, subject to any mandatory consumer-protection rights you have where you live.

13. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms from time to time. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page. Continuing to use the software after a change means you accept the updated terms.
